Welcome
As I try to organize my own content for the courses I teach, I am at the same time constructing a website that aims to connect ideas, resources, people and curriculum in the community of learners and educators within which I work. Ideally, students, parents and educators will find some useful information relevant to student learning here. If there is something else you want to see in this teacher website, let me know and I will do what I can. Be patient, this project is a work in progress.
Introductions
I teach Social Studies courses at Reynolds Secondary School in Victoria, British Columbia. I am married, new(ish) to fatherhood, love reading, travel, the outdoors and am occasionally a writer, runner and musician. If it were not for life getting in the way, I would be on a body of water this very moment.
As a lifelong educator, I have a vested interest in improving my own professional practice while appealing to a longstanding intellectual curiosity. To that end, I recently (2013) completed a Master of Arts (History) program at McGill University. As a high school teacher my main objective is to engage students in a study of the past and present and in doing so I ask them to make connections that are relevant to their lives. I am dedicated to maintaining a high standard of innovative instruction, as this makes for good professional practice while my holistic, project-based assessment of student's knowledge and analytical skills are aspects I continue to develop.
Moreover, I continue to be shaped by people, ideas and my environment and this influences both my personal and professional lives. Indeed, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between the two. It is fair to say that this is the case for so many in our age, but rings ever so true for educators.
